Mediterranean garden: the complete project for a private garden
A house in the Empordà on a 30 × 40 m plot. Pool, terrace with pergola, paths and Mediterranean species, designed from start to finish.
Demonstration project. Fictional house, plot and owners. We designed it to show the level of detail of a turnkey project.
The brief
The owners want to know before starting what the garden will look like, what it will cost and how much care it will need. They need a project any gardener or builder can price and carry out.
What we built
- A two-storey house with a terracotta-tiled terrace and a reed pergola by the living room.
- A 10 × 4.5 m pool with Roman steps and a larch sun deck.
- Five paths: granite entrance, main path to the fountain, stepping stones and gravel along the house.
- Twenty Mediterranean trees and shrubs: olives, citrus, stone pine, holm oak, strawberry tree, carob, pomegranate, palms and cypresses.
- A myrtle hedge on three sides, four beds with lavender, rosemary, santolina and grasses, and a granite rock garden.
- A street fence with stone pillars, a gate and a 3.5 m driveway gate; heather screening along the rest of the boundary.
- Fountain, benches, lighting and outdoor furniture.
- Drawings at 1:200, a planting plan and an itemised budget.
What the owners gain
The owners walk through their garden in 3D as it will look in five years and have an itemised budget before hiring the work.
Technology
Our own 3D garden design software: terrain, Catalan species with their growth, scaled drawings, quantities and a budget based on Spanish construction reference prices.
